Alpha and Alphess: Pack Leaders, mated pair. Have final say over ranks and acceptance to the pack. Audition or Challenge ONLY.
*Heir: Pup chosen from a litter by the alphas to inherit one of their positions when of age, which is around three years. OPTIONAL, decided by alphas ONLY. Need not be pup of the alphas.
Beta and Betess: Second in command, mated pair. May accept members to the pack. Third in line to step in for the alphas if the heir is not of age. Appointed by alphas.
Delta and Deltess: Third in command, mated pair. May accept members to the pack.
Soldiers: Members tasked with fighting enemies and defending the packlands.
Scouts: Members tasked with patrolling and marking the borders, hunting, and scouting the packlands. May admit new members to the pack conditionally until an alpha, beta, or delta can beet with the member themselves.
Healers: Wolves knowledgeable in herbs, sicknesses, or injuries, tasked with tending to the medical needs of the pack. Especially important during battle.
Healer subranks: Lead Healer: In charge of the medical team, usually the most experienced or skilled healer. Medics: Healers serving under the direction of the lead healer.
Seers: Storytellers, star-readers, and keepers of legend and history.
Elders: Often act as seers or pupsitters. Omegas and Exiles cannot become Elders.
Trainees: Youths in training to be a soldier, scout, healer, or seer.
Pups: Members to young to hold any other rank.
Omegas: The lowest wolves of the pack, usually demoted to this rank as a form of punishment, or because they are deemed incapable of successfully holding a higher rank.
Exiles: These wolves have recieved the worst punishment possible, short of execution - they have been banished from the packlands and are to be killed on sight if they return.
