1.0 - What is Frostbite?
Frostbite is a forum-based, play-by-post wolf rpg. It opened in January of 2011 and was home to quite a few awesome people! Over time, it became innactive. It was overhauled and re-opened in May 2011.
Wolves are the main animal we play here at Frostbite, however, many different species are allowed and encouraged. We are a "light" fantasy roleplay - characters may have oddly coloured eyes, and hidden around Kyrkja, strange artifacts that some believe to be magical can be found.
1.1- Important ReadingRules - This is the only strictly required piece of reading for all new members. You don't need to remember every detail, but it is a good idea to refer back to them whenever you are unsure, as well as refreshing your memory and checking for updates.
Plot & History - Highly suggested, this will give you a great background of Kyrkja and the packs of Frostbite.
Cbox Rules - The rules for using our chat box.
1.2 - Landscape of Kyrkja
"Kyrkja" is the term for the region where Frostbite takes place - in the time of humans, it was located in what was known as Western Norway. Since the disappearance of man, nature has reclaimed the world. The creatures have their own names for the places they call home, and the home of Frostbite's 3 packs, as well as the outlying loner lands, is known as Kyrkja, named for the Kyrkja river which flows through it.Is Kyrkja based off a real place in Norway?
No. While it's landscape features are generally indicative of northern Scandinavia, you would be hard pressed to find all the features of Kyrkja in one place, in the same layout. In fact, some inaccuracies have been made intentionally, to provide a more interesting variety of places to roleplay.
1.3 - Packs
There are three packs in Kyrkja, as well as the unclaimed lands, where any pack wolf or loner can roam.
Raekerin - Is the northernmost pack, although parts of their lands are very warm due to geothermal activity - Raekerin is a land of geysers, hot-springs, and caves. Raekerin was once the Northern Tribe, before the three present-day packs were formed. Their rank system is unique, comprised of normal leadership structure and regimented fighter classes known as combatants, as well as more standard roles like healers and storytellers. Raekerin prides itself on strength, and is the most martial pack of the three.
Fjordsong - Is one of the two southerly packs (although, 'south' is a relative term in northwestern Norway). As its name implies, it is a land of fjords, mountains, and the mightiest stretch of the Krykja river. Fjordsong makes its dens among an ancient henge of standing stones. Historically, they are the peacekeepers - it was the formation of this pack that triggered the end of the the first war between the Northern and Southern tribes. However, their strength should not be underestimated.
Valkyr - Is other southerly tribe. Their packlands are inland from Fjordsong and are dominated by thickly forested mountains and open, windswept highlands. This pack formed when the more war-hungry members of the southern tribe were banished from Fjordsong, and they have proven to be the most volatile of the packs. They are the only pack to traditionally keep slaves and captives.
Loners - Each player is allowed one loner character here at Frostbite, although additional loners can be purchased in the Icicle Exchange using Icicle points earned by participating around the site. Life for loners is hard in such a harsh environment.
1.4 Kyrkjan Culture
The wolves of Kyrkja have established cultures in each of their own packs. However, there are certain aspects shared by all Kyrkjan wolves. If you're unsure what a term means, or want to refer to something historical, such as the Change, the glossary of Kyrkjan terms is a great place to start.
2.0 Joining & Getting Involved
The first thing you need to do if you're joining Frostbite is read the rules.
Once you've read the rules and created an account, your next task is to make a character by filling out the bio form . A staff member will look over the bio form once it is finished and either accept it or tell you what you need to fix.
IC: If your wolf will be in a pack, the next step is to join IC - you are not automatically accepted when your character is approved. Joining depends on the specific pack - you may need to talk to the alpha, or perhaps a scout will do. Your pack my have a joining thread, or you may need to create your own - when doing this, please put 'joining' or 'acceptance' in the thread title.
OOC: We love new members and visitors! Our plot is member-driven, so feel free to dip your toes into planning mini-plots in the plotting section. There are also member-run contests and games to get involved in. And of course, there's the cbox.
2.1 Icicles
Icicles are our own form of currency here on Frostbite. They can be used to purchase a lot of cool perks, such as non-wolf characters or a custom colored name for yourself.
You earn Icicles by posting and participating around the site - every IC post gets you 5 icicles. You can also win them in contests, or by referring new members (every referral gets you 20 Icicles, and if they stay active for 3 weeks, you get 50 more Icicles). Sometimes the staff just give them out when we're feeling generous!
Icicles can also be given from member to member in the Icicle exchange.
