Alder’s eyes cracked open to the dim light of his little den. It was barely dawn, in the past he had been one to sleep in but now that he was a member of a pack he had responsibilities and it didn’t seem right to lie about all day. His black muzzle opened wide in a yawn as he got to his feet and stretched his long, heavy body. A cold breeze flushed through the cave, it was a bit of a harsh shock first thing in the morning but it woke him up a little. To his left some water trickled down the wall and into a little stream that ran through a crevasse in the rock. The stream passed through an opening too small for any wolf to pass through and continued through the cave system to places unknown. The dark colored wolf dropped his head for a drink of cool water and drank until his thirst was quenched.
The brute stepped into the dim sunlight of the early morning. He glanced around with his yellow eyes but it seemed all his pack mates were ether elsewhere or still sleeping. The wolverine commander had spent days going over the land so that he knew every inch of it, if it came to a crisis it would help to have a good handle on the geography of Raekerin’s land. The entrance to the cave he had decided to call his own was located on a small ledge. He liked the higher elevation because it gave him a good vantage point to see what was going on in the den area; this was the reason why the large canine had passed up some of the larger caves.
He would need a new mission for the day, getting the wolverine combatants together was high on his priority list but it seemed he was the only one around for the moment. He could go for a run, maybe check to see if there was anything suspicious going on in the unclaimed lands, the coliseum seemed to attract a lot of wolves, he had noticed that during his last little visit. With his mind finally made up he jumped down from the ledge and started to make his way across the limestone landscape in the direction of the nearest border.
Alder was not a fast runner but he could keep pace for a long time, it took a while for him to reach the coliseum. From the outside of the ruins everything appeared quiet. By the time he had gotten there the sun had fully risen but the sky had clouded over, giving everything a dull, shadowy appearance that made the coliseum appear rather ominous. Alder didn’t hesitate to approach the entrance to the old structure and make his way into the middle of the arena. It looked as though there was nobody around but there were plenty of places for wolves to hide up in what was left of the stands. There were some tracks in the skiff of snow that covered the ground, they looked relatively fresh. He stooped down to see if there was any scent left, he was curious to see just who had been there. When he lowered his head it made the scars on his neck visible, two perfect circles from the fangs on a Lynx that had narrowly missed his spine. He made sure to keep alert to any sounds that might indicate another wolf close by. Some wolves might have thought he was foolish for walking straight into the open but he was confident in his ability to defend himself so he saw no need to go creeping about in the shadows.

Ivory eyes stared from the shadowed area of which she now rested in. She had woke early that morning, even before the sun rose. The ground had just been way to cold for her to sleep on and her restless paws had guided her from her new pack lands to this intriguing area they called a Coliseum. Inside one of the many rooms that hadn't fully deteriorated was a snow-less ground. Perfect for her to lay upon even though the rubble was still cold. How many times would she curse winter this year? She hated it, hated, hated, HATED it. She almost wished she did have someone to curl up with to keep warm on these bitter cold nights.
Though a breeze swept into the building she was in, bringing a scent of a male wolf. One that was familiar. Alder. A dark smirk flitted across her features as she slowly rose to her paws. She arched her back in a stretch before silently prowling out of the building and stood at the top of the stands her piercing white lanterns watching the fellow dark wolf as he bent down to sniff at the snow. The Wolvrine Commander. Idly she wondered what brought him to the Coliseum. Mindless practicing maybe? Dim-witted mongral...- Of course she really didn't know him...but most warriors were as such. Stupid idiots...with a lot of brute force in their muscles.
A light chuckle escaped her as she slowly descended the stands in languid steps. Usually, not a sound would be heard, but as her paws crunched away at the snow her position would be given away easily. Stupid snow...- Abyss reached the bottom of the Coliseum and slowly made her way towards Alder, a chilling smile upon her face. Her eyes danced over him, taking in every detail that belonged to Alder. They were of the same pack, but she did not trust one so easily.
"And what brings the Wolvrine commander so far from home?" Her voice was pure taunt, a melodic sound whispering a chaotic tune. She slid around him, walking behind him as if circling the brute in challenge before she came up around his other side until she was face to face with him once more. Though there was no challenge within the depths of Abyssal's chilly ivory eyes. Just that of a meager curiosity. She just hoped she was wrong about him, she didn't want to be in a pack full of idiots; but she definitely would love to have the rank of Crow Commander.
Of course to be at such a rank she had to prove to their Alphess that she was suitable for the job; she just had to sit back patiently until the alphess made up her mind on what Abyss would have to do. Hopefully it involved stalking around and killing some random wolf before he realized she was draining his life right out of his body. Laughter echoed in her mind, but she did not let it slip forth from her mouth. No need to go and scare this brute away so quickly.

Vines and moss clung to the cracked and crumbling stone walls. The stone thing where humans battled for entertainment. Yet now it was nothing to the wolves but a bunch of intricately placed stones. For wolves they never questioned why the Earth spun or why the things were the way they were. They just accepted it as naturally occuring and moved on with life. The ones that even questioned what was happening around them was the story tellers and healers. Zelunik was a healer. She needed to know where to find herbs that would heal, calm, and sooth. Her title as a healer lead her to do crazy things such as venture away from her pack lands. She would never be the lead healer in her pack but as long as she was free to heal and do her own thing she was happy. Plus out in the loner lands there were wolves injured who needed her.
She felt drawn to the old place. Instinctively she felt a twinge of fear from the human built dwelling. Humans were destructive in their ever quest to build, create, and destroy. Since humans still existed they would repeat their past and recreate things like this Coliseum. That was in the far future as predicted by Baba B. Zelunik would be dead before then. For now she padded into the building her ears pointed forward, tail parallel to her body, and eyes wide to take in all before her. This was the loner territory. Her pack meant nothing to her. The small female was used to hostile wolves. It took time for loners and wolves of other packs to trust her. In fact she felt a calling to this place for some reason.
Her internal instinct always brought her to where she was either needed or wanted. Somehow this place was where she was to see something interesting in the most. Walking through the tunnels Zelunik emerged into the sunlight. Her breath came out into pants and she had to blink before her eyes adjusted to the light. She was in what was once a spectators seats. In the middle she saw two wolves. The wind favored her. So her scent would not be known to them. Curious.
The mexican gray leaped down the stairs until she was on the last stone. She plopped down to scratch her ear and watched the fun. There was female and male. Zelunik did not know the scents of the wolf packs yet though she was sure to learn. Eventually she felt it in her heart that if she did not fully accept her pack or they accept her she would become a traveling healer again. Of course that was only for time to tell. Though she would have to learn the pack scents soon enough. Especially if conflict struck between packs. A shiver went down her spine, bloodshed, and having to reset broken bones. Something no healer wanted to do. For she knew how wolves got when they were in pain.
'Commander?? These two must be from the northern pack, Raekerin.' Zel thought. She was close enough to hear the wolves and hopefully they would notice her soon. Before they got too much into each other to notice her. Sometimes being quiet and listening one learned about the other packs and even the individual wolves in it. OOC: Sorry if it's blah!!

Alder was a little surprised when he heard the faint sound of someone laughing. He lifted his head to look at the she wolf for a second he was tense but as the female descended to his level he recognized her face and caught the scent of his own territory. He knew who she was, but he hadn’t had a chance to speak with her yet. He really didn’t know any of his pack mates yet aside from Zatenya. There was no sense in looking at the tracks now as they most likely belonged to Abyss. He grinned and sat down as the female began to circle him “I could ask you the same question…” he answered with a smirk. The way she had snuck up on him combined with her behavior made him wonder if she would be trying out for the crow combatants, perhaps even commander, she certainly met the requirements from what he could see.
One thing that set Alder apart from some warriors was that he was no idiot, he was quite intelligent but he did have some typical male habits that made him hard to deal with at times. He didn’t like to be wrong and he had a tendency to be rather ignorant to anyone’s opinions but his own. When the female finally came to a stop in front of him he spoke again “Just out for a run, this place always seems to attract a lot of attention. I thought I would drop in and see who I ran into” he explained quite honestly. “And what about you? you must have been up early to have beat me here” he said.
A second after he spoke he caught sight of movement from the corner of his eye. He stood up and turned in the direction of another female. He didn’t recognize this one but she was of little threat, she was outnumbered for one thing. There was always the danger of an ambush but that concern dissipated when he caught the smell of Fjordsong. That pack didn’t care much for was from what Alder had heard. He turned to Abyss for a second “Didn’t I just say this place attracts a lot of attention?” he said with a small laugh. He turned back to the stranger; she didn’t seem worried by the fact that she had just met two wolves from a rival pack. The hairs on his neck bristled slightly, more in annoyance than aggression “Listening in are we?” he asked the new arrival. His voice wasn’t threatening but it wasn’t overly friendly ether.

The grin on the male’s mug made Abyssal raise a brow before a maniacal grin stretched her own muzzle. This would prove to be entertaining enough and she was glad she took the time to…greet this wolf. Ask her the same question? Of course she really had no reason to be here, only seeking that of a warmer place to lie. Not that this damnable place was much better. How she hated the cold weather. She fluffed her fur at the thought as agitation glittered behind her colorless lanterns. She gave a dark grin as he finally asked, again, what brought her here.
”The Cold…” It was her only answer as her ear flopped around as sudden movement caught her attention. Her hackles rose as her colorless eyes narrowed, yet never left Alder’s form. Someone was here? Not even being polite and announcing their presence either. Perhaps it was meant to be an attack? They weren’t very good at sneaking if so. Finally her head turned and tipped a bit as her eary white eyes looked towards where the female sat. A Female sat on the stands. A dark smirk crossed her features. That was of no threat to her at all. ”I was up too early,” A light growl echoed in her voice as she shifted and turned to half way face alder, while she could still keep the femme in her line of site.
Alder’s laugh drew Abyssal’s attention and she looked back at him only to shake her head in mild amusement by his words. It was a wonder why such a rundown place attracted so many. There was nothing spectacular about; it was just human territory, Boring old rubble with nothing pleasing to set your eye upon. The annoyance in Alder’s voice amused Abyss and she gave a mild dark chuckle. ”And who might you be, Darlin?” Pure black velvet was her voice, different than the voice that had been speaking with Alder; A chilling tone with a promise of great cruelty. She didn’t like to be spied on, not one bit.

She felt the tension in the air and scratched her ear before replying. A non threatening thing. Funny how wolves once accepted in packs felt the need to be hostile to strangers. She just happened by looking for herbs and anything of interests out of her pack lands. Zelunik was a free spirit. She wasn't a fighter but she could defend herself if need be.
In soft tones she spoke answering both, "No, they call me Zelunik, I was a traveling healer trained by the Seer Baba Barsha. I happened upon you two scouting for herbs."
They, being pack wolves, probably didn't know who the old seer was. Or maybe they did? Her master was a known and unknown to both pack wolves and loners. Either was welcomed for her healing touches, well for the price of a meal and a warm place to stay. Zelunik was supposed to be living a life like that, but well she felt a calling to join a pack.. Something was there for her. Anyways that was the past and future she needed to worry about the now.
"I heal all. The ones that call me a pack mate, other packs, or even loners. Though for those not of my pack I charge for a meal, and that is all," she dipped her head in greeting, "forgive me for not announcing myself, it seemed I should not, in case this was a private meeting."
With that said she made herself looked relaxed but made sure that she was ready to run if need be. She was quicker than the pack wolf, for she'd been in situations like this hostile pack members looking to harm a wolf off their territory. She would run and she would escape to heal another day. Maybe next time bring a pack mate to help her when situations turned tense. Who was she kidding, she preferred to be alone, things like this made her life worth living. She only had only her life to give anyways.

Alder had heard the response Abyss gave to his question ‘the cold’ it was an odd reason but he wasn’t going to question it. Alder was able to tolerate the cold when the sun was out. His black coat attracted the heat but on days like this when the sun was hidden he felt the cold more, he rarely complained about the weather though. He felt the more he thought about it the colder he would feel so he did his best to think of things besides the chill in the air. He listened as the ebon female turned her attention to the other she wolf in the stands. He sensed the coldness in her voice; her tone was much different with the other female. So far he liked Abyss even if she did have a bit of a certain eeriness about her.
Finally Zelunik spoke. She was a travelling healer? Wasn’t the last wolf he met here a healer too? There must have been quite a good supply of herbs here. He didn’t know a thing about herbs, they were of no interest to him unless he was hurt. The name she mentioned sounded a little familiar, like he may have heard it once before in casual conversation but he had certainly never met anyone by that name. He had spent a good three years as a loner but when he heard of Raekerin he decided to end that life and start a new one as a member of a strong pack.
He nodded as the wolf explained her work to them, she was quite chatty. He couldn’t help but think that he might be hesitant to trust another pack’s healer to treat him but then again Raekerin was still without a healer as far as he knew, so perhaps this was valuable information after all. The hefty brute nodded once more when she apologized for not announcing herself upon her arrival “Better to announce yourself and interrupt than to be mistaken for a spy miss. Not that it matters, you didn’t walk in on anything private” he said in his gruff way. He was in no way implying that she was a spy, it was just a bit of advice. He glanced at his white eyed pack mate, just to get an idea of her take on this bold stranger. He turned back to the Fjordsong healer “My name is Alder” he introduced himself. He took one last quick look around the coliseum for any more wolves that may have been hiding but he saw nothing. He would have introduced Abyss but some wolves didn’t like to give away their names, it was something Alder had never understood.

A healer was she? Abyssal’s once tensed muscles relaxed as she gave a small shrug. Healers were harmless; one of the types of wolves Abyssal had no problems with. In fact they became rather useful when she made mistakes and took home some injuries of her own. Not to mention they were probably the easiest wolf to kill. Her thoughts were quickly shaken away and she set her focus onto Alder as he spoke to the she-wolf. ”I agree with Alder. Better to announce, than simply watching. It could get you…into a lot of trouble, ” A dark chuckle escaped the obsidian she-wolf as she shift the way she was sitting to fully face the Healer.
”But, I suppose all is to be forgiven….this time,” |
Her smile was wicked, but if you looked close enough there was a quiver of humor in the tune as well. Abyss gave one warning and one warning only; if any at all. If they did not remember and repeated said process the consequences from Abyssal would be grim. Zelunik…- It was an intriguing name, but it had a pleasant ringing to it and would leave a note in Abyssal’s collective mind. Her eyes narrowed in thought as her tail twitched behind her the tip of her tail flipping back and forth. This morning was proving to be rather interesting. She was glad for she was so sick of boring mornings. ”So…have you found yourself any sort of herbs out here? You say it’s prospering with such things?” It was a boring question sure, but there was still the light curiosity. She knew nothing about Herbs so she didn’t know the difference between these healing herbs and regular grass. All she knew was it all tasted the same; like crap. Her ears flicked backs for a moment as a sound behind her drew her attention, but they were quick for flip back towards Zelunik. Perhaps some animals were taking shelter. It did after all smelled like it was about to snow some more; damn it all to hell. OOC : Sorry for crappy ass post :/ It'll be better next time. wittycomment [/blockquote]
