The dismal blues of dusk had finally given way to advances of the night, the cold eye of the moon shining down on a sole figure walking slowly across the sands of the beach. The languid trot was born not so much from a sense of ease or even from a desire to view the lake at a more leisurely pace so much as it was the fatigue that rested as heavily in her bones as molten lead.
The weariness left the female feeling so heavy that it may have been if she stood still long enough her frame would slowly sink , eventually to be swallowed by the cold sands and never seen again. The childish thought was only the result of one of her idle musings; though the flesh was weakened the mind remained as active and whimsical as ever. Her path was along the edge of the water, the faint mimicry of waves came that lapping at the shore at the urge of the wind all but wiping away what faint tracks her travel had created. Angling her head towards its reflective surface she noted with some amusement the color her pelage took, hairs in their new moonwashed hue seeming to give off a faint glow and the female taking on the appearance of having a silver lining.
Nephele eventually slowed till reaching a completely halt, lowering the herbs to the ground; the residual acrid flavor still lingering with the same intensity as when the purple flowers had been cradled in her jaws. Prunella, the sole source of the trip and an herb so powerful that it had been jokingly nicknamed Heal-All for its effectiveness was well worth the journey to find it, but after a countless frame of time spent carrying the bitter tasting plant even she was growing weary.
Stepping forward and away from her prize the female neared the water and let the black liquid flow past the gaps between weary toes and over her paws, habitually casting a wary glance both ways before finally lowering her head to the water’s edge and drinking. A finger of electricity ran down her spine in reaction to the ice like chill as the cool liquid slid over a dry tongue and down her throat, after a few moments spent lapping at it water she lifting her head and licking away the clinging droplets that remained.
Gaze was cast upwards into the cloudless sky, an immeasurable number of stars hanging on their infinite canvas and a million more seeming to be reflected in the waters below. By some great luck it was just as her eyes rose that she caught the sight of a light, a brilliant streak of white that flew across the sky for a fraction of a second before returning seamlessly to the murky heavens. Peppered back heaved in a contented sigh and then her entire frame was still, silent and unmoving as one of the ancient remnant pieces of architecture that littered the lands, a perfect picture in black and white as her honey gold eyes finally closed in submission to the placidity of the landscape.
